Pocono PA Area Guide
The Pocono Mountains are located in northeast Pennsylvania, covering over 2,400 square miles of beautiful valleys, sparking lakes, rivers, and some of the most magnificent waterfalls in the east. The Pocono Mountain area is made up of four separate counties, including Carbon, Monroe, Pike, and Wayne. Amongst all of the natural beauty, there are many attractions in the Poconos that draw visitors to this charming vacation area year round. Come take a part in what the Poconos has to offer, including whitewater rafting, skiing, fishing, golf, historical tours and film festivals. Here in the Poconos you will find the perfect place for your family vacation home, honeymoon, corporate meeting, or just a relaxing weekend getaway.
Pocono History
The Pocono Mountain area was first inhabited by the Delaware, Iroquois, Shawnee, Minisink, Lenape and Paupack Indians. By 1742, English and German settlers were coming to the area. The first permanent residence was established by Nicolas Depui in 1725. The resort industry began to flourish by 1857, after Anthony Dutot built the first boarding house in 1829 in the Delaware Water Gap. The area became known as “Pennsylvania’s Playground”, and its high altitudes attracted many residents from Philadelphia and New York City during the summer months.
The Poconos became nicknamed the “Honeymoon Capital of the World” when the first heart-shaped tub was introduced in Lakeville, Pennsylvania. The Pocono Mountains also became a favorite for family vacations, as the area provided all the conveniences of home while in a resort setting away from the stresses of everyday life.
In 1971, the Pocono International Raceway opened and began to bring over 100,000 race fans to the mountains twice each summer. In the 1980s, the Poconos began to attract visitors during all four seasons with the growth of other attractions like outlet shopping, golf, whitewater rafting and more. Interest began growing in golf and spa vacations, which encouraged the Pocono Mountains to expand in their luxury accommodations. Today visitors can play over 35 courses of golf or stay at one of the many country inns or bed and breakfasts, complete with home-baked goods and charming hospitality.

Blue Mountain Lake
In the foothills of the Pocono Mountains in historic East Stroudsburg is where you will find Blue Mountain Lake. Penn Estates Property Owners Association
Penn Estates is a gated community located within the hardwood forest of Northeastern Pennsylvania. This beautiful natural setting features breathtaking hill top views, three lakes and plenty of friendly wildlife. The clubhouse is the center of the community and serves as the perfect place to meet new friends. As a member, take the family for a dip in the pool, a game of volleyball, or relax at the lakeside beach.
Pocono Country Place
A Pocono Country Place is a private gated community with many resources that provide a safe, comfortable country living atmosphere for families and people of all ages. Pocono Country Place is located in a mountain paradise overflowing with recreational amenities, active social activities and welcoming neighbors. A Pocono Country Place covers 1750 acres and is the community of choice for over 10,000 residents.
Pocono Ranchlands
Located in Bushkill, Pocono Ranch Lands is a four season community with many amenities right at your fingertips. There is a ski chalet and many outdoor pools that can be enjoyed in any season right out your back door.
Saw Creek Estates
Saw Creek Estates is located just minutes away from horseback riding, alpine skiing, golfing, and Fernwood Resort. Skiers will find themselves only 7 miles from Shawnee and approximately 20 miles from Camelback.
Sierra View Association
Sierra View Association is a Homeowners Association located in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. It was established in 1976 and now the association has over 1250 properties. Sierra View is a private association governed by membership approved bylaws, rules, and regulations. The Sierra View Association strives to provide homeowners with an active and safe community to live in.
Stillwater Lakes Civic Association
Stillwater Lakes Civic Association is conveniently located off Route 940, near Interstates 380 & 80, in Pocono Summit, Pennsylvania.

Big Pocono State Park
Big Pocono State Park is located on Camelback Mountain and is rugged and scenic. The park features a paved, scenic drive which encircles the mountaintop and provides a beautiful view of vast portions of Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey.
Delaware State Forest
Delaware State Forest covers over 80,056 acres and features more than 100 miles of trails and over 5,000 acres of natural areas. There are three trails available for all-terrain vehicles at Maple Run, Burnt Mills and Pohopoco.
Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
The Delaware Water Gap Nation Recreation Area was established in 1965 for public outdoor recreation use and for the preservation of scenic, scientific, and historic resources. The area is abundant in both cultural and natural history. The ridges and river valley contain streams, waterfalls, geologic features, a diversity of plants and wildlife, and traces of past occupants and cultures. Popular activities include canoeing, rafting, fishing, picnicking and camping.

The Pocono Mountain area offers many unique events. Whether you are into NASCAR, independent films, or whitewater rafting, the Poconos has something exciting and adventure filled waiting for you.
Pennsylvania 500 Weekend
Do you like race cars? The Pennsylvania 500 and other races are in Long Pond. You have plenty of fun and exciting activities leading up to the events all weekend. Pocono Raceway has long been recognized as one of NASCAR's most competitive raceways and is bound to be exciting.
Pocono Mountains Film Festival
The Pocono Mountains Film Festival is located at The Mount Airy Casino and Resort. The festival showcases feature length documentaries and short films that represent some of the best independent cinema from around the world. There will be three days of screening and special events that will end with the Festival Awards Ceremony and Banquet Diner. Awards will be presented to the best independent filmmakers from all over the world. At the Pocono Mountain Film Festival you will also be able to enjoy workshops with writer/director David Saperstein, and filmmaker/entertainer attorney Micky Hyman.
Family Style Whitewater
Each family style whitewater rafting trip is led by professional river guides. A full river running briefing starts your day, familiarizing you and your group with the ways of the river. Here you will challenge the rapids, mild water, fast water, and touch of Class III whitewater. The Lehigh is perfect for beginners, school groups, or reunions. One of the most unique things about this trip is our free riverside barbecue, which is available daily June 7 through September 1, and weekends in September.

The Pocono Raceway has been thrilling race fans since 1968. Pennsylvania’s Pocono Raceway is located conveniently to residents of New Yorkers, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Carousel Water and Fun Park offers pay one price and get unlimited admissions to Go-Karts, Bumper Boats, Two Waterslides, Kiddie Kars, Wading Pool and Mini-Golf. Come practice your swing in the batting cages featuring softball and hardball hitting. There is also an arcade, snack bar and picnic area.
Costa's Family Fun Park
There is lots to do at Costa's Family Fun Park! The park offers bumper boats, go karts, miniature golf, driving range, batting cages, video games, dining, and so much more.
Costa's Family Fun Park is located just east of Lake Wallenpaupack and is conveniently close to home. Bring the family and enjoy a round of miniature golf on the challenging yet fun 18-hole course or practice your golf game by hitting a basket of balls at our driving range. Practice your swing at the stadium batting cages. There is slow and fast pitch softball and baseball pitches for little and major leaguers.
Shawnee Water & Fun Park
At the Shawnee Water and Fun Park, kids and parents can spend time together and grow closer through wholesome creative play. The Shawnee Water and Fun Park is located just at the base of Shawnee Mountain Ski Area in the scenic Pocono Mountains. There is over 15 unique outdoor play activities especially for children ages 2 to 12 and their families, plus two waterslides with splash-down pools.

Pocono Golf
Glen Brook Golf Club
Designed in 1924, Glen Brook is one of the oldest courses in the Poconos. Glen Brook is a gently rolling course with scenic views that brings water into play on six holes. The course features a wide variety of holes and never a boring experience. There is a challenge on every hole for players of all skill levels.

Poncono Ski
Alpine Mountain
Come experience the winter fun day and night at Alpine Mountain. There is skiing, snowboarding, half-pipes, terrain parks, snow tubing, and a “Little Tots” Penguin Play Park, which gives a little bit of something for everyone. Alpine Mountain is a great place for families and groups.
Camelback Mountain Resort
Camelback Mountain Resort features great snow, fast lifts, and amazing service. Here you can learn to ski or snowboarding in no time. Camelback features 33 trails, 13 lifts including two high-speed quads, 100% snow making, 100% night skiing, 3 New terrain parks and 2 half-pipes, and 14-chute snow tubing park.
Shawnee
Shawnee is the Poconos favorite ski resort. There are 23 slopes and a tremendous lift capacity featuring a quad lift and double-double chairlifts. Shawnee is known for making service and hospitality a top priority. Shawnee is very family friendly and the children's Ski Wee program is ranked nationally. The rental shop can outfit 4,000 skiers and the Ski School makes learning fun and easy.
