Located in the northeastern portion of Pennsylvania, in Monroe County, Tobyhanna Township is a progressive and growing municipality. Nestled in the Pocono Mountains, Tobyhanna Township is mainly a residential community, but has some opportunity for commercial and industrial development. Several villages are found within Tobyhanna Township. These include Blakeslee, Pocono Lake, Pocono Pines and portions of Pocono Summit. About 6,000 people call this mountain enclave home.
The name of the township, Tobyhanna, is taken from a Native American word meaning, “a stream whose banks are fringed with alder.” This stream is the Tobyhanna Creek, tributary of the Lehigh River in the Poconos of eastern Pennsylvania. Tobyhanna Township was formed from nearby Coolbaugh Township in 1830. Interestingly enough, many of the entities bearing the “Tobyhanna” name actually lie within the boundaries of Coolbaugh Township, found to the north of Tobyhanna Township. Some of these are Tobyhanna State Park, Tobyhanna Army Depot, and Tobyhanna Lake.
With the Poconos as a backdrop, Tobyhanna is noted for its great natural beauty. Tobyhanna has many parks available for enjoying outdoor life in the Poconos. Check out one of these great Tobyhanna parks today!
